- So Far So Good Review by Richard

I notice no one has posted a review of this product in well over a year. I am not sure if that is a good sign or a bad sign, however, all I can say is thus far I am quite satisfied with this little gadget. It has worked as advertised, including charging my iPhone 4. In fact my only negative comment is that you must first condition the battery (which can take at least 8 hours), meaning you'll need to show a wee bit of patience before using for the first time.Rating
Otherwise, you'll find this to be an invaluable accessory for those unexpected moments when you find you're running low on battery and a nearby outlet is nowhere to be found or you're like me, and you're attempting to reduce your dependence on the grid to power your gadgets. As I believed another reviewer recommended, you might want to leave this on your dash during daylight hours for immediate access when you need it. I purchased this solar power charger for my XT720 Motorola Droid more out of curiosity than belief that it would actually work as advertised by GoldenGadgets. But low and behold this remarkable solar power charger works amazingly well. I first charged the battery pack from my iMac, then plugged my Droid into the Solar Pack in it immediately began charging the Droid. Love to find great products like this, and for the price, well, how could I really go wrong. (Posted on 8/12/10)Rating - Remember That It's A Sub-$20 Charger, And You Will Likely Be Happy... Will this charge your power-hungry devices like Mobile MP4 Video and DVD players? NO! Will it power your Apple xxx? Probably not. But will it give some extra run-time to your regular cell phone? Most likey. I use mine with a Blackberry 8830 World Edition, and I have seen it recharge the phone if it is not in use. If the phone is doing ANYTHING that draws power, you will likely only see the battery level stay at the same level for a while, or at least slow its march to empty.Rating
This is only a 2000mAh Lithium ion battery inside, so don't expect it to recharge your Blackberry battery, which is likely 1400mAh or higher more than once. Even in a perfect world, connecting this charger will likely only give you an additional hour or two stacked on top of the original 3.6 to 5 hours the Blackberry 8830 claims. But if you use it for e-mail, browsing, etc... you're going to be lucky to get 3 hours constant use.
If this is enough for you, then this is a great little gizmo. (Posted on 2/12/10) - Works great! Review by Kutman

I was a bit hesitant to get this based on the other reviews, but it actually works great for my blackberry. No problems at all. I leave it in my car as a backup power supply for when I forget my charger and it hasn't failed me yet! And it's such a cool toy to have!! My friends all love it. Definitely a conversation starter! 1. The solar charger unit works very well, and the USB charge does also.Rating
2. The first downfall of this unit is that the electronics pcb inside, needs to be more secure.
3. The socond downfall is when you discharge this unit down to a point of about 3v, it will auto-shut- off, and will recharge in direct sun light, but will not come back on until you remove the discharge cord from the unit, and reconnect it to the unit. So if your phone is not fully charged at the time of the auto-shut-off, but the solar unit is still in direct sun light, it will not continue to charge until you disconnect the discharge cord, and then reconnect it is the solar unit.
4. The third downfall is that, if the solar unit it left out in the rain, the electronics inside the unit may be damaged. The top part of the solar panel needs to be water proof. (Posted on 2/3/10) - IPhone 3G(not 3GS) Review by Hyun

I've tried every possible combination of cables with no luck. On screen it shows it's charging but the battery never fills. I've also tried charging with USB and/or solar power and solid green light came up after a few minutes of charging. Yes, I've tried charging my IPhone after that, but still no luck.Rating

I performed the initial charge of the internal battery by cabling the charger to my laptops USB port. As it was an initial charge I left it plugged in overnight, to properly break in the battery.Rating
The next day I was dissapointed to find that it's very cheap materials used for the construction of the USB tip adapters. It's also very difficult to find a replacement USB micro tip adapter. It took me a few days to find the right questions to ask Google. For others who are searching this seems to be specialized to solar chargers. I broke my USB micro adapter tip after accidentally dropping it while it was connected to a Motorola droid, and that was it. The droid was fine, but the actual solder points inside of the adapter tip housing instantly broke off and It's too small to be able to re-connect with out special micro electronic soldering tools, so it's not fixable. The only option was to purchase a replacement tip. I paid $6.99 for the replacement from another company, hoping that it will be better quality. I suspect that it costs about 10 cents to actually make these tips. I'm not saying that the tips should be indestructible, but it would be nice if they were made of better materials, because accidents do happen.
The good news is that, it does appear to work as designed. It appeared to be charging the droid before I dropped it and broke the tip. (Posted on 12/11/09) - Limited usefulness Review by Jon

Great shipping! To start off it does not charge my IPOD touch 2gen. It does change my cell phone and other stuff that came with the adapters. i've have it for 1 week and at first glance it looks cheap. plastic and glass and the USB ports you plug your stuff into the charger can SNAP if not careful. Over all i'm happy. I live in Florida and it's always on my windowsill charging. I give it 5 out of 5 but it does not charge my ipod touch. but it's NOT there fault the description does say "most" items. I may hack the solar part and interal battery and find an adapter for the ipod touch as i might get an iphone some day. (Posted on 9/1/09)Rating - The charger works great. Review by Henry P

The charger works great. I forgot my car charger at home while i drove 15 hours, and i remembered i had this charger with me. it held the charge from a two weeks ago from when it was out in the sun. The charger charged my phone to almost full and i recharged the panel when daylight came up. It is definately worth having. (Posted on 9/1/09)Rating
